Lauren Iuliucci (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea) in the 87th minute lifted the Caldwell University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory Sunday afternoon at Churchman-Sawin Field. The win is the first of the season for the Cougars, who are now 1-3 overall and 1-1 in league play. The Lightning drops to 1-1, 0-1 CACC.
Goldey-Beacom took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Nicole Curry in the 24th minute. The lead lasted into the second half until the 54th minute, when senior forward
Natalie Migoya (Lincoln Park, NJ/Morris Catholic) scored an unassisted goal on a breakaway. Iuliucci gave Caldwell the win when she knocked in a pass from senior forward
Melissa Stec (Salt Point, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) in front of the goal with just over three minutes left in regulation. It was Iuliucci's fourth game-winning goal of her career.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Kylie Whalen (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) made five saves in goal for the Cougars, who out-shot the Lightning 16-10. Goldey-Beacom's Marie Goodman tallied six saves.
Caldwell plays a non-conference game at Molloy College on Wednesday, Sept. 17. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
