Box Score 2 CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Caldwell University volleyball team completed play at the California (Pa.) Tournament on Saturday with losses to Cedarville University and Alderson-Broaddus University. The Cougars are now 3-5 overall on the season.
In the day's first match, Cedarville (4-4) defeated Caldwell in three sets, 25-19, 25-12, 25-12, while hitting .382 and recording 43 kills compared to 25 for the Cougars. Senior
Erica Harrell (Richardson, TX/Plano East) had a team-best seven kills, and sophomore
Rachael DiLeonardo (West Chester, OH/Mount Notre Dame) tallied six kills two blocks. Senior setter
Athena Nestoras (Los Angeles, CA/St. Monica) registered 15 assists and nine digs, while freshman setter
Gabrielle Bennett (San Antonio, TX/Johnson) added nine assists and seven digs. Freshman middle blocker
Narae Wadsworth (Reno, NV/Wooster) posted four blocks to go with five kills. Abby Shelton led Cedarville with 13 kills.
Against Alderson-Broaddus (2-8), the Cougars took a 2-1 lead after dropping the first set, but ended up losing in five sets, 25-23, 25-27, 20-25, 25-22, 15-13. DiLeonardo notched 10 kills and was one of five Cougars to reach double-figures in digs with 25. Freshman
Taryn Auyong (Honolulu, HI/Kamehameha) contributed nine kills and 20 digs, Wadsworth had eight kills and five total blocks, and Harrell recorded seven kills and 13 digs. Nestoras delivered 29 assists and 21 digs. Senior libero
Jaclyn Del Cid (Bogota, NJ/Bogota) racked up 33 digs to lead the Caldwell defense. Caitlin Cain registered 23 kills and 23 digs to lead Alderson-Broaddus.
Caldwell hosts Concordia College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 16, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
