Box Score HILLBURN, N.Y. – The Caldwell College women's lacrosse team concluded its inaugural season with a 23-4 defeat to Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday afternoon at the Torne Valley Complex. The Cougars' first season ends at 0-12, while the Chargers are now 9-6 overall, 8-4 CACC.
After Dominican tallied the first three goals of the game, freshman
Christina Gonzalez (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly) scored back-to-back goals to make it a one-goal game with 19 minutes left in the first half. The Chargers answered with two goals of their own, then freshman
Kaitlyn Coghlan (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa Acad.) found the net with 15 minutes remaining. After Allison Smithwick scored her second goal of the game for Dominican, freshman
Amy Hudak (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) scored to make the score 6-4 with 10:10 on the clock. It was all Dominican from that point, as the Chargers reeled off 17 unanswered goals.
Gonzalez finished with two goals and five draw controls. Senior
Sarah Royse (Danvers, MA/Northern Valley) recorded three draw controls in her final game, while freshman
Miranda Harrington (Neptune, NJ/St. Rose) had five caused turnovers. Freshman goalie
Adria Ostafi (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) notched 10 saves in goal for Caldwell. Smithwick and Gina Sparaco led Dominican with four goals apiece.
The Cougars return a young nucleus for next year, as freshmen accounted for 63 of the team's 64 goals this season. Freshman
Kirsten Whitt (Lawrenceville, GA/Mountain View) led the team with 20 goals, followed by Gonzalez with 19 and freshman
Courtney Donlon (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) with 11.
