VERONA, N.J. – The Caldwell College women's lacrosse team fell to Post University, 13-7 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game at Centennial Field. The loss keeps the new program winless at 0-3 overall and in the conference, while the Eagles improve to 3-5, 3-2 CACC.
Caldwell answered a pair of goals from Post in the first 14 minutes of the game with tallies from freshmen
Kirsten Whitt (Lawrenceville, GA/Mountain View) and Christina Gonzalez (Fairfax, VA/Chantilly) to tie the score at 2-2. The Eagles scored the next three goals, then matched a goal from Whitt with a score in the final minute of the half to lead 6-3 at the break. Post goalie Kathy Walker registered 10 saves in the first 30 minutes.
Gonzalez's second goal of the game made the score 7-4 Post with 20:43 remaining in the game. But again the Eagles found the net three straight times to lead 10-4 with less than 14 minutes to play. The Cougars never came closer than five goals the rest of the way, as Post defeated Caldwell for the second time this season.
Whitt finished with four goals and has a team-leading eight goals in three games this year. Gonzalez had two goals and freshman
Victoria Grzelak (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) had a goal and two assists. Senior
Sarah Royse (Danvers, MA/Northern Valley) and freshman
Kyleigh Sivillo (Naples, FL/Palmetto Ridge) also recorded assists. Royse also tallied four draw controls and three ground balls. Freshmen
Melissa Garris (Matawan, NJ/Old Bridge) and
Adria Ostafi (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) split the goalkeeping duties, with Garris making three saves and Ostafi recording five saves. Wilson finished with 17 saves for Post, while Morgan Kanavy and Eryka Baez each scored four goals.
Caldwell faces Wilmington University in a CACC game on Saturday, Mar. 29 at 1:00 p.m. in Wilmington, Del.
