Cougars Lose at Felician in Women’s Basketball

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Caldwell College women's basketball team lost a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game at Felician College, 75-58 Thursday night at Job Gymnasium. The result drops the Cougars to 11-9 overall and 9-4 in conference play, while the Golden Falcons improve to 9-11 overall, 7-6 CACC.

The first half remained close throughout, with 11 ties, 15 lead changes and neither team leading by more than three points. A pair of free throws by senior forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) with under a second to play in the half put Caldwell on top at the break, 36-34. Anderson scored 10 points in the first half, as Que Lyles countered with 10 points for Felician.

After the Golden Falcons scored the first four points of the second half, a three-pointer from junior guard Devin Gold (New Hope, PA/Council Rock North) sparked an 8-2 run that gave the Cougars a 44-40 advantage with 13:26 to play. Felician answered with a 10-0 run, including a three by Sierra McDuffie and four points from Lyles, that put the hosts ahead, 50-44. The lead was four, 54-50 with 8:13 on the clock when the Golden Falcons reeled off a 16-4 spree that made the score 70-54 with 3:49 to play. Caldwell never came closer than 14 points the rest of the way, as Felician earned a split in the season series.

The Cougars shot a season-low 21.5 percent from the field for the game and made just four field goals in the second half. The Golden Falcons out-scored Caldwell in the paint, 48-14 while holding a 50-43 edge in rebounding.

Anderson and junior forward Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) led the Cougars with 13 points apiece, while Anderson added 11 rebounds and three assists. Freshman guard Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, NY/Ardsley) scored 11 points, and sophomore guard Nicole Angelo (Mount Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic) contributed nine points. Lyles finished with 16 points and eight boards for Felician, with Ashley Morris pitching in with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Caldwell faces defending CACC champion Holy Family University on Saturday, Feb. 8, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
