CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College women's basketball team earned a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over visiting Goldey-Beacom College, 62-59 Sunday afternoon at the George R. Newman Center. The win gives the Cougars a 13-10 record on the season, including an 11-5 mark in conference play. The Lightning drops to 10-13, 7-9 CACC with the loss.
Goldey-Beacom started well, taking a 19-11 lead over the first five minutes of the game. Four points from freshman forward

Nicole Angelo (Mount Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic) helped the Cougars respond with a 9-0 run to lead, 20-19. The teams traded baskets and the lead eight times over the next 10 minutes with neither team able to make consecutive baskets during that stretch. Dakia Manning broke the string with back-to-back field goals to put the Lightning on top, 31-28 with 1:23 left in the half. But the Cougars were able to take a one-point lead into the halftime break following baskets by junior forward
Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) and senior guard
Marielle Duryea (Middle Village, NY/Archbishop Molloy) to close out the period.
In the second half, Goldey-Beacom used a 10-2 run to regain the lead, 45-40 with 12:20 remaining. With 7:20 left to play and the Lightning holding a 51-48 edge, Caldwell took control of the game for good with a 14-3 run that included seven points from Angelo and four from senior forward
Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn English). Goldey-Beacom made a late push with five points from Lillian Chukwueze in the final minute of the game, but it was not enough to prevent the Cougars from winning their second straight game.
Caldwell shot 43.9 percent from the field for the game compared to 39.4 percent for the Lightning. Caswell led the way with 19 points and eight rebounds for the Cougars, with Angelo contributing 16 points. James finished with 15 points, eight boards and six blocks, and Anderson added eight points and 12 rebounds. Chelsea Grover paced Goldey-Beacom with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Caldwell takes on Concordia College on Tuesday, Feb. 18 in a CACC road contest. The game starts at 5:00 p.m. in Bronxville, N.Y.
