CALDWELL, N.J. – In a match-up of division leaders, the Caldwell College women's basketball team fell to Philadelphia University, 91-80 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon at the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars, who entered the game atop the CACC North Division standings, are now 11-8 overall and 9-3 in league play. The Rams (13-5), who lead the CACC South, remain unbeaten in the CACC with a conference mark of 11-0.
Caldwell led 19-14 midway through the first half when Philadelphia reeled off 15 straight points, including eight from Alex Heck, to lead 29-19 with 6:44 left in the half. A three-pointer by Monica Schacker before the buzzer gave the Rams their largest lead of the period, 46-33 at the break. Heck and Schacker scored 11 points apiece for Philadelphia, while the Cougars received nine points each from senior forward

The lead grew to as many as 16 points before Caldwell used a 12-0 run to pull within four, 53-49 with 15 minutes to play. Anderson and junior forward
Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) had four points apiece. A conventional three-point play from junior guard
Jessica Coscia (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) and a basket from Anderson helped Caldwell cut the deficit to 59-56 with 12 minutes on the clock. But Philadelphia took control of the game with a 16-2 run over the next four minutes that made the score 77-58 with 7:35 remaining. The Cougars came as close as 10 points with 2:19 to play, but could not prevent the Rams from winning their 11th conference game without a loss.
Both teams shot the ball well in the second half, with Philadelphia making 61.3 percent from the field compared to 58.1 percent for Caldwell. The Rams hit 8-of-12 from three-point range and held a 37-29 edge in rebounding.
Anderson led Caldwell with 19 points and seven rebounds while making 9-of-14 from the floor. James scored a career-high 18 points to go with 11 rebounds and four blocks. Freshman guard

Nicole Angelo (Mount Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic) had 11 points, and Coscia delivered a season-best nine assists. Jacobs led all players with 21 points, and Heck finished with 18 points and 10 boards for Philadelphia.
The Cougars take on Felician College on Tuesday, Feb. 5 in a CACC North Division contest. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. in Rutherford, N.J.
