CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell University women's basketball team beat Nyack College, 87-54 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Friday night in the George R. Newman Center. The victory gives the Cougars a 7-6 record overall, including a 4-1 mark in league play. The Warriors fall to 1-8, 1-3 CACC.
Caldwell took control of the game with a 14-2 run midway through the first half to lead 32-15 with 8:35 to play in the first half. The bulge grew to as many as 31 points before the Cougars took a 52-25 advantage into the halftime break. Senior forward
Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) shot 8-of-10 from the field en route to 20 points and 10 rebounds in the half. Sophomore guard
Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, NY/Ardsley) also was hot, scoring 18 points while making 3-of-5 from three-point range. As a team, Caldwell shot 52.5 percent from the floor while limiting the Warriors to 24.2 percent (8-of-33).
In the second half, Nyack was unable to make much of a dent in the Cougar lead, as Caldwell led by as many as 36 points. Caldwell ended up shooting 45.7 percent from the field for the game, including 7-of-15 (46.7 percent) from beyond the arc.
Caswell finished with 25 points and 13 boards for her 10th double-double in 13 games this season. Pilla added 21 points and four assists, while freshman forward
Karlie O'Driscoll (Sharon, MA/Sharon) had 14 points and eight rebounds. Freshman guard
Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, MA/St. Mary's) tallied six rebounds, five assists and five steals, and senior guard
Jessica Coscia (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) delivered five assists to go with seven points. Jamie McKeither led Nyack with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Caldwell hosts a non-conference game against Southern New Hampshire on Sunday, Dec. 21 in the final game before the holiday break. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in the Newman Center.
