Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Caldwell Falls to Felician in CACC Quarterfinals

CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell University women's soccer team lost to Felician College, 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Monday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The Cougars fall to 9-7-2 on the season, while the Golden Falcons (11-4-3) advance to Thursday's semifinals in Waterbury, Conn.

The game started much like last Wednesday's regular-season finale, with neither team able to score despite creating chances. In the 12th minute, senior forward Natalie Migoya (Lincoln Park, NJ/Morris Catholic) broke in alone on Felician goalkeeper Julia Sheridan, but Sheridan made the save to keep the game scoreless.

Two minutes after halftime, Jordan Farley took a free kick from 22 yards out put a shot into the right corner of the goal for a 1-0 Felician lead. Less than a minute later, Migoya blasted a shot labeled for the right side of the goal, but Sheridan tipped the ball past the right post. Then in the 52nd minute, a shot by Amanda Nowak was deflected by senior goalkeeper Robin Franchi (Sewell, NJ/Deptford), then bounced off the post. Katina Kozlowski knocked in the rebound to put the Golden Falcons ahead, 2-0. Caldwell took four shots and put two on goal the rest of the way but were unable to score, as Felician advances to the semifinals for the first time since 2003.

Franchi made five saves in goal for Caldwell, while Sheridan tallied seven saves for the shutout.

The loss also marked the final game for seniors Migoya, Franchi, defenders Lauren Iuliucci (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea) and Camille Little (Hamilton, NY/Nottingham), midfielders Emily Boehler (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Reg.) and Ashlee Paknis (Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Reg.), and forward Melissa Stec (Salt Point, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes). The group combined to win 44 games over the past four seasons.
