RINDGE, N.H. – The Caldwell University women's basketball team lost a non-conference game at Franklin Pierce University, 82-64 Saturday afternoon at the FPU Fieldhouse. The loss ends a three-game winning streak for the Cougars, who are now 3-3 on the season. The Ravens improve to 4-2 with the win.
Caldwell stayed close over the first 10 minutes of the game, trailing 20-17 following a three from freshman guard
Sharell Sanders (Dorchester, MA/St. Mary's). But Franklin Pierce broke open the game by scoring the next 13 points to lead 33-17 with 5:49 to play in the first half. The Ravens eventually took a 43-26 advantage into halftime after shooting 55.9 percent from the floor in the half compared to 31.3 percent for Caldwell.
Franklin Pierce did not let up in the second half, increasing its lead to as many as 31 points. The Cougars struggled from the perimeter, making 2-of-16 from three-point range. The Ravens also enjoyed a 49-31 rebounding advantage for the game. All three of Caldwell's losses have been against teams from the Northeast 10 Conference.
Sanders led the Cougars with a career-best 13 points to go with four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Senior forward
Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) was held to just nine points and six rebounds, while junior guard
Nicole Angelo (Mount Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic) and freshman forward
Karlie O'Driscoll (Sharon, MA/Sharon) contributed nine points each. Defensively, senior guard
Devin Gold (New Hope, PA/Council Rock North) recorded three of Caldwell's 11 steals. Jemma Thacker led Franklin Pierce with 17 points and eight rebounds.
The Cougars take on another Northeast 10 school on Sunday, Nov. 30, playing at St. Michael's College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in Colchester, Vt.
