BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – A goal by senior forward
Steve Petrosino (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) in the 86th minute broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Caldwell University men's soccer team a 3-2 triumph over Bloomfield College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Wednesday night at Foley Field. The Cougars move to 7-4 overall and 4-3 in league play, while the Bears drop to 3-8, 3-4 CACC.
With Caldwell trailing 2-1 midway through the second half, Petrosino assisted on a goal by freshman
Sam Odell (Walton-On-Thames, England/Heathside) to tie the score at 2-2 in the 72nd minute. With less than five minutes to play in regulation, Odell sent the ball into the penalty area, where Petrosino headed it into the left corner of the goal. The tally is Petrosino's fourth game-winning goal of the season and eighth of his career.
Junior midfielder
Christian Castro (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) put the Cougars on top with a penalty kick goal in the 40th minute. The Bears tied the score on a goal by Marin Jonjic in the 61st minute, then took the lead on Shaunavon Desouza's goal in the 68th minute.
Junior goalkeeper
Michael Hartmann (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) made six saves in goal for Caldwell, while Wilson Cisneros notched eight saves for Bloomfield.
The Cougars return to action on Thursday, Oct. 16 with a CACC game at Philadelphia University. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
