Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Cougars End CACC Schedule with 3-1 Win Over Felician

CALDWELL, N.J. – Senior forward Steve Petrosino (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) found the net twice as the Caldwell University men's soccer team wrapped up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with a 3-1 victory over Felician Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The Cougars (11-5 overall) completed their CACC schedule with an 8-4 record to clinch at least a fourth-place finish. The Golden Falcons fall to 2-16, 2-10 CACC.

Junior midfielder Christian Castro (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a goal off a pass from junior defender Evan Marques (Linden, NJ/St. Joseph's). Less than six minutes later, Castro dribbled down the left side to the end line and centered the ball to Petrosino, who scored from 10 yards out for a 2-0 lead. Felician cut the lead in half with a goal by Jonathan Mensah in the 23rd minute.

Twelve minutes into the second half, Petrosino got on the end of a long throw into the penalty area by senior midfielder Yousef Elhusseini (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) and headed it home for his second goal of the game. Petrosino and Castro each have a team-leading 10 goals on the season. For Petrosino, his first goal of the game proved to be his seventh game-winning goal of the season, which ties him for the national lead in that category.

Junior goalkeeper Michael Hartmann (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) made six saves in goal for Caldwell, while freshman Fritz Meister (Flaach, Switzerland) had two saves in eight minutes in relief of Hartmann. Anthony Tsouhnikas tallied four saves for Felician.

A top-four finish in the CACC standings means a home game in the first round of the CACC Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 4. The Cougars have not hosted a first-round game since 2007.

Caldwell concludes the 2014 regular season with a non-conference game at St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday, Nov. 1, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Sparkill, N.Y.
