Anderson Nets 1,000th Rebound in Victory Over Nyack, 72-62

Box Score
CALDWELL, N.J. – Senior forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn) registered 22 points and a career-high 21 rebounds, including the 1,000th rebound of her career, as the Caldwell College women's basketball team defeated Nyack College, 72-62 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday night at the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars improve to 11-7 overall and 9-2 in conference play, while the Warriors drop to 5-14, 4-8 CACC.

Anderson, who entered the game with 989 career rebounds, gathered in the historic carom at the 12:47 mark of the second half. She joins former Cougar standouts Nicole Campbell and Antrinette Barrino as the only Caldwell women's basketball players to record 1,000 rebounds in a career.

The Cougars closed out the first half with a 14-4 run to take a 31-18 lead at halftime. Caldwell limited Nyack to 26.5 percent shooting from the field while junior forward Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) led the Cougars with 13 points in the first period.

Baskets by Caswell and sophomore guard Nicole Angelo (Mount Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic) to open the second half pushed the lead to 35-18 before the Warriors made a comeback attempt. A pair of threes by Tori Trador and another from Audrey Matteson sparked a 17-2 spree that made it a two-point game, 37-35 with 14:54 to play. Anderson responded for the Cougars with 10 points in a 13-4 run for a 50-39 edge at the 11:34 mark. The Warriors were able to work the deficit down to five points three different times, but Caldwell never let the score get any closer than that the rest of the way.

The Cougars attempted 24 free throws, making 20 compared to 8-of-11 for the Warriors, who scored 24 second chance points on 23 offensive rebounds for the game.

Caswell contributed 24 points, nine boards and two steals while shooting 8-of-12 from the floor. Anderson, who hit 10-of-11 from the line, also blocked three shots. Freshman forward Alyssa James (Rosedale, NY/St. Mary's) also was a force in the paint with eight blocks to go with 11 rebounds and four points, while junior guard Jessica Coscia (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) delivered five assists. Matteson led all scorers with 32 points to go with 16 rebounds for Nyack.

Caldwell returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 1 against Philadelphia University in a game between the two current division leaders. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. in the Newman Center.
