KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Caldwell College volleyball team wrapped up play at the Kutztown University Tournament Saturday afternoon, splitting a pair of matches. The Cougars (2-1) defeated Davis & Elkins in three sets before falling to West Chester University, 3-0.
Against Davis & Elkins, Caldwell dominated from start to finish, winning 25-12, 25-13, 25-15. The Cougars hit .280, led by senior middle blocker
Kasey Bausch (Bellmore, NY/Holy Trinity) at .444, while holding the Senators to a negative hitting percentage of -.065. Junior outside hitter
Athena Nestoras (Los Angeles, CA/St. Monica Catholic) registered a team-best eight kills, while freshman outside hitter
Taylor Zaeske (S. Milwaukee, WI/S. Milwaukee) had six kills and Bausch added five kills. Freshman setter
Rachel Carpenter (Newark, OH/Newark) delivered 10 assists. The defense, which limited Davis & Elkins to 21 kills, was led by Nestoras and junior libero
Jaclyn Del Cid (Bogota, NJ/Bogota) with 12 digs apiece.
In the day's final match, West Chester handed Caldwell its first loss of the season, winning the match by scores of 25-20, 25-18, 25-21. Zaeske tallied nine kills to lead the Cougars, while sophomore middle blocker
Kelsey Blankerts (Sylvania, OH/Southview) added six kills. Julia O'Brien had 14 kills to lead all players, as West Chester hit .430 for the match.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 10 with a non-conference match at Southern Connecticut State, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in New Haven, Conn.
