Caldwell Draws with Wilmington in Women’s Soccer, 1-1

NEWARK, Del. – The Caldwell College women's soccer team played Wilmington University to a 1-1 tie in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match-up Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex. The result gives the Cougars an overall record of 4-2-2, including a 3-0-2 mark in conference play. The Wildcats are now 3-4-1, 3-1-1 CACC.

Wilmington took the lead in the 29th minute, when Victoria Casapolli finished a cross from Kim Richer. The Wildcats maintained the one-goal advantage until Caldwell was awarded a penalty kick in the 55th minute. Senior midfielder Julie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) took the penalty kick and beat goalkeeper Julia Brown to tie the score at 1-1. Neither team was able to score for the remainder of regulation and through two 10-minute overtime periods, as the game ended in a tie.

Junior goalkeeper Robin Franchi (Sewell, NJ/Deptford) tallied seven saves in goal for Caldwell. Brown also made seven saves for the Wildcats, as the Cougars held a 17-12 advantage in shots.

Caldwell plays a non-conference game at NYIT on Tuesday, Oct. 1, beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Old Westbury, N.Y.
