CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College women's soccer team lost a non-conference game to LIU Post, 3-1 Monday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The defeat drops the Cougars to 3-2-1 overall, while LIU Post improves to 3-2.
Caldwell struck first in the 20th minute, when a corner kick by senior midfielder
Carissa Strye (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) was deflected into the goal by a Pioneer defender. Less than four minutes later, Hanna Westerling knocked in a pass from Julia Backman to tie the score at 1-1.
The game remained tied into the second half, until LIU Post scored two quick goals to tip momentum in favor of the visitors. Backman tapped in a long throw-in from Jackie Niciforo in the 64th minute, then Suzanne Vistnes tallied an unassisted goal 47 seconds later for a 3-1 Pioneers lead. Caldwell managed just one shot the rest of the way, as the Pioneers avenged a 3-2 loss to the Cougars last year in Brookville, N.Y.
Junior goalkeeper
Robin Franchi (Sewell, NJ/Deptford) recorded seven saves in goal for the Cougars, while Katelyn Phillips made two saves for LIU Post.
Caldwell hosts Concordia College on Wednesday, Sept. 25 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game, starting at 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
