ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The Caldwell College volleyball team lost a non-conference match on the road to Molloy College Thursday evening at Quealy Gymnasium. The Cougars, who lost in four sets, 25-18, 25-22, 17-25, 25-22, drop to 5-6 on the season. The Lions are now 5-4.
After losing the first two sets, Caldwell used seven kills from freshman outside hitterÂ
Taylor Zaeske (S. Milwaukee, WI/S. Milwaukee) and five kills from freshman middle blocker
Taylor Kovach (Oregon, OH/Clay) to win the third set and get back into the match. In the fourth set, the Cougars trailed for most of the set but pulled to within 22-21. But a pair of kills by Shannon Appel and a service ace from Sam Berna closed out the win for Molloy.
Zaeske, who received weekly honors from the ECAC and CACC earlier this week, finished with a career-high 24 kills to go with six digs. Kovach also achieved a career high with 12 kills, while senior middle blocker
Kasey Bausch (Bellmore, NY/Holy Trinity) had seven kills and a .429 hitting percentage. Junior libero
Jaclyn Del Cid (Bogota, NJ/Bogota) led the defensive effort with 30 digs. The Cougars held an advantage in kills for the match, 54-46, but hit .166 compared to .275 for Molloy. The Lions were led by Appel with nine kills and no errors in 18 attempts.
Caldwell plays another non-conference match on Saturday, Sept. 21, when the Cougars face the College of St. Rose. The first serve is set for 7:00 p.m. in Albany, N.Y.
