Caldwell Women’s Soccer Dominates in Home Opener

Box Score
CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College women's soccer team gave its fans a lot to cheer about in a 6-0 victory over Goldey-Beacom College Saturday afternoon in the first home game of the season at Caldwell Field. The win also came in the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game of the year for the Cougars, who are 2-1 overall. The Lightning falls to 0-2 overall and in the CACC.

An own goal in the fifth minute allowed Caldwell to take an early 1-0 lead. A cross by senior midfielder Julie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) bounced off a Goldey-Beacom defender and into the net. Then in the 17th minute, a long pass from sophomore midfielder Sarina Soriano (San Jose, CA/Archbishop Mitty) sprung junior forward Natalie Migoya (Lincoln Park, NJ/Morris Catholic) for a breakaway, and her second goal of the season made it 2-0. Freshman midfielder Caroline Slater (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Reg.) and Migoya put together a couple nice passes that ended up with Crankshaw finishing in the penalty area in the 23rd minute for her first goal of the season.

A little over a minute later, junior midfielder Ashlee Paknis (Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Reg.) collected her own rebound, dribbled around goalkeeper Cindell Aguirre and scored for a 4-0 lead. Soriano and freshman midfielder Delaney Boyer (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro) scored second-half goals to close out the scoring.

Junior goalkeeper Robin Franchi (Sewell, NJ/Deptford) made one save for her second career shutout. Aguirre recorded nine saves for Goldey-Beacom, as the Cougars held a 23-3 advantage in shots. The six goals are the most in a game since a 7-0 victory over Concordia College on Oct. 20, 2010.

Caldwell continues CACC play with a game at Felician College on Wednesday, Sept. 18. The game is set to start at 7:00 p.m. in Lyndhurst, N.J.
