CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College women's soccer team defeated Bloomfield College, 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The Cougars improve to 11-5-2 on the season and advance to Thursday's semifinal round at Wilmington University. The Lady Deacons end their season at 6-11-1.
Sophomore midfielder
Sarina Soriano (San Jose, CA/Archbishop Mitty) broke a scoreless tie in the 31st minute, heading home a corner kick from junior midfielder
Ashlee Paknis (Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Reg.). The score remained 1-0 until the 61st minute, when sophomore midfielder
Ashley King (Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Reg.) sent a pass up the middle to junior forward
Natalie Migoya (Lincoln Park, NJ/Morris Catholic). Migoya's shot glanced off goalkeeper Sashagay Spence and into the goal for a 2-0 lead.
Then in the 73rd minute, Soriano one-timed a cross from senior midfielder
Carissa Strye (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) at the far post for her second goal of the game and fourth of the season. Junior forward
Melissa Stec (Salt Point, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) closed out the scoring in the 82nd minute, knocking in a rebound off a shot from sophomore forward
Remi Piccirillo (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North).
Junior goalkeeper
Robin Franchi (Sewell, NJ/Deptford) made three saves in goal for her fifth shutout of the season. Spence finished with five saves for Bloomfield.
The Cougars advance to the CACC Tournament semifinals for the sixth time in team history to face sixth-seeded Philadelphia University, who upended third-seeded Georgian Court University, 3-0. The Rams eliminated Caldwell in last year's semifinals, 2-1 in Waterbury, Conn. Holy Family University will play Dominican College in the other semifinal.
The semifinal match-up with Philadelphia is on Thursday, Nov. 7, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Wilmington University Complex in Newark, Del.
