Bloomfield Defeats Caldwell in Women’s Hoops, 73-56

CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College women's basketball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game to Bloomfield College, 73-56 Monday evening at the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars fall to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play with the loss, while the Lady Deacons improve to 4-2, 2-0 CACC.

The game was close in the first half, with five ties and seven lead changes. A three-pointer by Ivettlis Castro helped Bloomfield take its largest lead of the period, 29-24 with two minutes left. Senior forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn) converted a lay-up for Caldwell that made the score 29-26 at the half. Anderson scored 14 points and sophomore guard Nicole Angelo (Mount Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic) added 10 in the first half.

The Lady Deacons took control of the game right away in the second half, scoring 10 straight points, including threes from Castro and Ariel Wilson, to lead 39-26 with 16:51 to play. Three-pointers by freshman guard Antoinette Pilla (Scarsdale, NY/Ardsley) and junior forward Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) helped to cut the deficit to nine, 43-34 at the 15-minute mark. But Bloomfield reeled off a 16-4 run over the next four minutes to expand its lead to 59-38. The bulge grew to as many as 26 points, as the Cougars suffered their first conference loss of the season. The Lady Deacons shot 51.5 percent from the field, including 3-of-5 from long range, while building a 44-32 advantage on the glass for the game.

Anderson finished with a game-high 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the field. Angelo had 13 points, while freshman forward Alyssa James (Rosedale, NY/St. Mary's) grabbed a team-best nine boards. Castro had 15 points and six assists, and Tierra Scott tallied 14 points and 11 rebounds for Bloomfield.

Caldwell plays a non-conference game at the University of the District of Columbia on Tuesday, Dec. 3, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
