PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Caldwell College volleyball team lost a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match to Philadelphia University, 25-21, 25-23, 25-11 Saturday afternoon in the Gallagher Center. The result drops the Cougars to 16-11 overall and 13-4 in the conference, while the Rams improve to 15-8 overall, 14-2 CACC.
Philadelphia held a slim lead for most of the first set and held on for the 25-21 win. Senior middle blocker
Kasey Bausch (Bellmore, NY/Holy Trinity) had four kills in the set to lead the Cougars. The second set was also close, with Caldwell pulling to within one point at 23-22 and 24-23. But Brittany Olson's kill gave the Rams a 25-23 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match. Freshman outside hitter
Taylor Zaeske (S. Milwaukee, WI/S. Milwaukee) had seven kills, and freshman setter
Rachel Carpenter (Newark, OH/Newark) delivered 13 assists.
The third set was anti-climactic, as Philadelphia held the Cougars to a hitting percentage of -.030 en route to a 25-11 win and the sweep. The Rams remain in contention for the CACC South Division title, one game behind Wilmington (16-2). Caldwell is currently tied with Nyack College for first place in the CACC North.
Carpenter finished with 30 assists, while Zaeske had a team-best 10 kills. Junior outside hitter
Athena Nestoras (Los Angeles, CA/St. Monica) added eight kills and 11 digs, and sophomore right side
Kelsey Blankerts (Sylvania, OH/Southview) recorded seven kills and a .316 hitting percentage. Olson had nine kills and no errors to lead the Rams.
Caldwell hosts Bloomfield College in a CACC match on Wednesday, Nov. 6, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
