WORCESTER, Mass. – The Caldwell College women's basketball team opened play at the Assumption College Tip-Off Classic with a 64-51 loss to the host Greyhounds Saturday evening at Laska Gymnasium. The Cougars fall to 0-2 with the defeat, while Assumption improves to 1-1.
The Greyhounds took control of the game in the first half, leading by as many as 15 points before taking a 34-20 advantage at the half. Caldwell struggled from the field, shooting just 24.1 percent compared to 41.9 percent for Assumption. Senior forward
Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) tallied 10 points to lead the Cougars.
In the second half, Caldwell shot the ball better (44.4 percent) while getting to the free throw line 20 times. But the Cougars were only able to get within 13 points in the half, as the Greyhounds stayed on top for the win.
Anderson finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and two steals for Caldwell. Junior forward
Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) added 15 points, including 11 in the second half, and seven boards. Assumption received 17 points from Tafanie Roye, and 10 points and 11 rebounds from Caitlin Ackerman.
The Cougars will face No. 7 Stonehill College on Sunday, Nov. 17 on the second day of the Assumption Tip-Off Classic. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m.
