LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Caldwell College volleyball team lost to Philadelphia University, 3-1 in the semifinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Friday afternoon at Georgian Court University's Wellness Center. The Cougars complete the 2013 season with a 19-12 record, while the Rams (20-8) advance to Saturday's final against Georgian Court.
Philadelphia won the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-12 to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. The Cougars responded by hitting .355 with 14 kills in the third set en route to a 25-18 victory. The fourth set remained close, but the Rams held off Caldwell down the stretch to win 25-19 for the victory. Philadelphia recorded 16 blocks in the match while limiting the Cougars to a .081 hitting percentage.
Freshman outside hitter
Taylor Zaeske (S. Milwaukee, WI/S. Milwaukee) had nine kills, and freshman middle blocker
Taylor Kovach (Oregon, OH/Clay) delivered eight kills and a .429 hitting percentage. Senior middle blocker
Kasey Bausch (Bellmore, NY/Holy Trinity), who was playing in her final match as a Cougar, added six kills and two total blocks. Freshman setter
Rachel Carpenter (Newark, OH/Newark) registered 27 assists and nine digs, while junior libero
Jaclyn Del Cid (Bogota, NJ/Bogota) had 18 digs. Brittany Olson led the Rams with 13 kills and 12 digs.
Caldwell, the top-seeded team in the North, wasn't the only No. 1 seed to fall, as South Division champion Wilmington lost to Georgian Court in three sets.
