Cougar Volleyball Defeats Dominican in Three Sets

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Caldwell College volleyball team swept Dominican College, 25-16, 25-17, 25-19 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Wednesday night at the Hennessy Center. The victory gives the Cougars a 10-8 record on the season, including a 7-1 mark in league play. The Lady Chargers are now 4-14, 4-4 CACC.

In the first set, Caldwell scored the final five points to take a 25-16 win, getting three kills apiece from sophomore middle blocker Kelsey Blankerts (Sylvania, OH/Southview) and freshman outside hitter Taylor Zaeske (S. Milwaukee, WI/S. Milwaukee). The Cougars led the second set by as many as 11 points, then held off a late charge by Dominican to take a 2-0 advantage in the match. Zaeske helped Caldwell close out the victory with five kills in the final set.

The Cougars registered 72 digs, including 24 from junior libero Jaclyn Del Cid (Bogota, NJ/Bogota), to hold the Lady Chargers to a -.007 hitting percentage for the match. Zaeske led all players with 12 kills to go with eight digs, while junior outside hitter Athena Nestoras (Los Angeles, CA/St. Monica Catholic) tallied six kills and 15 digs. Freshman setter Rachel Carpenter (Newark, OH/Newark) delivered 26 assists in the win. McKenzie John led Dominican with nine kills and 14 digs.

The Cougars play another CACC North Division foe in Nyack College on Friday, Oct. 11, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Nyack, N.Y.
