BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – The Caldwell College volleyball team dropped the first two sets, only to win the next three to defeat Bloomfield College, 3-2 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Friday night at the Bloomfield Gymnasium. The victory gives the Cougars a 12-9 record on the season, including a 9-2 mark in league play. The Lady Deacons fall to 1-18, 1-9 CACC.
After losing the first two sets, 25-10 and 25-22, Caldwell came back in the third set with a dominating 25-12 win. Freshman middle blocker
Taylor Kovach (Oregon, OH/Clay) had four of the Cougars' nine kills in the set. The fourth set was tied at 15-15 before Caldwell tallied 10 of the last 13 points to force a fifth set with a 25-18 victory. Freshman outside hitter
Taylor Zaeske (S. Milwaukee, WI/S. Milwaukee) led the way with five kills.
In the fifth and deciding set, the Cougars jumped out to a 7-3 lead and never looked back en route to a 15-9 victory. Junior outside hitter
Athena Nestoras (Los Angeles, CA/St. Monica) had three kills, and freshman setter
Rachel Carpenter (Newark, OH/Newark) tallied two service aces in the final set to help clinch the win.
Nestoras led Caldwell with 11 kills and 12 digs to go with four service aces. Kovachs and Zaeske each had 10 kills apiece. Carpenter finished with 35 assists and seven aces, setting a new program record for aces in a match in the 25-point era. Defensively, junior libero
