CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College women's soccer team fell to Dominican College, 2-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The loss is the Cougars' first in conference play, and drops their record to 7-4-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the league. The Chargers improve to 5-3-3, 5-2-1 CACC with the win.
Caldwell opened the scoring in the 10th minute, when junior midfielder
Emily Boehler (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Regional) blasted home a loose ball in front of the goal for a 1-0 lead. Four minutes later Dominican tied the score on a goal by Olivia Antonopoulos off an assist from Danielle Klecha. The game remained tied until the 82nd minute. Melissa Messina placed a shot past junior goalkeeper
Robin Franchi (Sewell, NJ/Deptford) and into the goal for a 2-1 Charger lead. The Cougars were unable to answer, suffering their first conference loss of the season.
Franchi made three saves, as Caldwell built a commanding 23-8 advantage in shots. Gina Yannette recorded nine saves in goal for Dominican.
Caldwell plays a CACC contest at Holy Family University on Saturday, Oct. 19, beginning at 12:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
