CALDWELL, N.J. – Sophomore midfielder
Remi Piccirillo (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) scored twice to help the Caldwell College women's soccer team defeat Molloy College, 3-1 in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The Cougars improve to 7-3-2 with the win, while the Lions fall to 2-10.
Piccirillo's first goal put Caldwell ahead, 1-0 in the 13th minute. A long throw-in by sophomore midfielder
Ashley King (Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Reg.) was deflected by senior midfielder
Julie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) to Piccirillo, who scored from close range. Molloy had a chance to tie the score in the 35th minute when the Lions were awarded a penalty kick. But freshman goalkeeper
Kylie Whalen (Sewell, NJ/Deptford) made the save to protect the lead.
Just five minutes later, another foul was called on the Cougars in the penalty area, and this time Gianna Jennosa converted for Molloy to tie the score at 1-1. Shortly after halftime it was the Cougars' turn to try their luck at the penalty spot, as junior forward
Natalie Migoya (Lincoln Park, NJ/Morris Catholic) was taken down in the penalty area in the 48th minute. Crankshaw stepped up and buried her penalty kick to restore the lead with her team-leading sixth goal of the season. Piccirillo closed out the scoring with a goal off an assist from Crankshaw in the 65th minute for a 3-1 advantage.
Whalen finished with seven saves for the Cougars, while Tricia Zarro had five saves for Molloy.
