OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Caldwell College women's soccer team lost a tough non-conference game at NYIT, falling in the second overtime period, 1-0 Tuesday afternoon at President's Stadium. The loss drops the Cougars to 4-3-2 overall, while the Bears improve to 3-5-1 on the season.
In the first half, Caldwell had a couple of excellent scoring chances, as junior forward
Natalie Migoya (Lincoln Park, NJ/Morris Catholic) hit the post twice. Junior forward
Melissa Stec (Salt Point, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) had a breakaway in the 64th minute, but NYIT goalkeeper Victoria Barclay made the stop to keep the Cougars off the scoreboard. The Bears also had an opportunity to end the game in the first overtime period, when Kathryn Boehmer hit the post in the 97th minute.
NYIT ended the game in the 106th minute, when Wendy Avendano put away a rebound off a shot from Sina Windmueller for the 1-0 victory.
Freshman goalkeeper
Kylie Whalen (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) played well in goal for the Cougars, making seven saves. Barclay recorded eight saves for NYIT, which held a 22-15 edge in shots.
Caldwell takes on Chestnut Hill College on Saturday, Oct. 5 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest. The match starts at 1:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
