ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Junior forward Julie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) scored the game-winning goal off an assist from her sister, senior defender Jackie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.), to give the Caldwell College women's soccer team a 3-2 overtime victory over Molloy College Wednesday night at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex. The victory is the first of the season for the Cougars (1-2), while the Lions drop to 1-2.
A pass from Jackie Crankshaw sent Julie Crankshaw in alone on Molloy goalkeeper Nicole DellaPorta less than five minutes into the first overtime period. Julie Crankshaw put the ball under DellaPorta for her second goal of the game, lifting Caldwell to the non-conference win.
Julie Crankshaw broke a scoreless tie in the 32nd minute, when a through ball from freshman midfielder Sarina Soriano (San Jose, CA/Archbishop Mitty) gave Crankshaw a breakaway. In the second half, Allison Sloper tied the game for Molloy with a goal in the 53rd minute. Sophomore forward Megan Ferrara (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) restored Caldwell's one-goal lead when she one-timed a pass from freshman forward Lisa Rovatsos (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) in the 69th minute. But Sloper found the net again in the 80th minute to tie the score at 2-2.
Senior goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, NY/ East Islip) had four saves for Caldwell in the victory, while DellaPorta finished with eight saves for Molloy. The Cougars out-shot the Lions 17-10 for the game.
