Volleyball Stops Chestnut Hill in Four Sets

CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College volleyball team improved to 11-9 overall and 4-2 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference  with a four-set win over Chestnut Hill College Saturday afternoon in the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars won the match by the scores of 18-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-12. The Griffins fall to 6-11, 2-4 CACC with the loss.

Caldwell struggled in the first set, hitting .026 compared to .281 for Chestnut Hill in the 25-18 loss. In the second set, the Cougars registered 15 kills, including five from senior outside hitter Susan McDonough (Saline, MI/Saline), and scored nine of the last 11 points to win 25-18. Caldwell cruised in the final two sets, hitting a combined .304 and getting five kills from freshman outside hitter Rachael DiLeonardo (Cincinnati, OH/Mt. Notre Dame) in the third set and four kills from junior right side Kate Blankerts (Sylvania, OH/Southview) in the fourth.

DiLeonardo ended up with a match-high 11 kills against one error for a .333 hitting percentage. Senior right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) had 10 kills and hit .409, while McDonough finished with 10 kills and a team-best 15 digs. Junior setter Lisa Roth (Gilbert, AZ/Williams Field) dished out 40 assists and had two service aces. Sophomore Jaclyn Del Cid (Bogota, NJ/Bogota) and senior Maddy Amon (Louisville, KY/Bishop Moore) added 14 and 12 digs, respectively. Rachel Biro paced the Griffins with nine kills.

Caldwell plays at Post University on Wednesday, Oct. 3, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Waterbury, Conn.
