CALDWELL, N.J. – Sophomore forward Megan Ferrara (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) scored twice and junior midfielder Carissa Strye (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) had three assists, as the Caldwell College women's soccer team beat Bloomfield College, 4-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The Cougars, who are ranked 10th in the latest NSCAA East Region Rankings, have won their past seven games to improve to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in league play. The Lady Deacons are now 2-4, 1-3 CACC.
The game remained scoreless until the 39th minute, when Strye crossed the ball to freshman forward Lisa Rovatsos (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne). Rovatsos headed the ball on to Ferrara, who beat Bloomfield goalkeeper Sashagay Spence for a 1-0 lead. Seven minutes after halftime, the Lady Deacons pulled even on a long shot by Dayana Moya that bounced over freshman goalkeeper Robin Franchi (Sewell, NJ/Deptford) and into the goal to tie the game at 1-1.
Ferrara put the Cougars on top to stay in the 69th minute, one-timing a pass from Strye off a free kick for a 2-1 advantage. Junior forward Julie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) made it 3-1 when she knocked in a rebound off a shot by sophomore midfielder Ashlee Paknis (Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Reg.) in the 76th minute. Paknis then closed out the scoring, receiving a through pass from Strye and scoring on a breakaway in the 80th minute.
Franchi recorded one save, as the Cougars held a 26-4 advantage in shots. Spence finished with seven saves for Bloomfield.
Next up for the Cougars is a CACC meeting with Georgian Court University on Saturday, Sept. 29. The game starts at 1:00 p.m. in Lakewood, N.J.
