Cougars Play Volleyball Tri-Match at USciences

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Caldwell College volleyball team split a pair of matches at the University of the Sciences, winning a five-set match against the host Devils before losing to Southern Connecticut State Saturday afternoon at Morgan Arena. The Cougars are now 9-8 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Against the Devils (5-6, 2-1 CACC), Caldwell lost the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-17 before taking a narrow 26-24 win in the third set. After winning the fourth set 25-15, the Cougars wrapped up the match with a 15-10 win in the fifth set.

Senior outside hitter Susan McDonough (Saline, MI/Saline) led Caldwell with 12 kills and 21 digs, while freshman outside hitter Annyssa Herlihy (Springfield, NJ/Union Catholic) tallied 11 kills. Junior setter Lisa Roth (Gilbert, AZ/Williams Field) dished out 31 assists in the win, and sophomore libero Jaclyn Del Cid (Bogota, NJ/Bogota) recorded 18 digs. Caitlyn Crawford and Rachel Martin each had 13 kills for USciences.

In the loss to Southern Connecticut State (14-1), Caldwell won the first set 27-25 but faltered in their fourth match in two days, losing the final three sets 25-15, 25-20, 25-14. Junior middle blocker Kasey Bausch (Bellmore, NY/Holy Trinity) had six kills and four blocks, while Del Cid finished with a team-best 19 digs. Lauren McVey led all players with 22 kills for the Owls.

Next up for the Cougars is a CACC match at Nyack College on Tuesday, Sept. 25. The first serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Nyack, N.Y.
