CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College women's soccer team defeated Chestnut Hill College, 4-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The victory extends the Cougars' winning streak to six, setting the program's all-time record. Caldwell is now 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while the Lady Griffins are 3-4-1, 3-1 CACC.
Caldwell opened the scoring in the ninth minute, when junior forward Julie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) headed in a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Ashlee Paknis (Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Reg.). The score remained 1-0 until the 71st minute, as Crankshaw scored on a header off a corner from junior midfielder Carissa Strye (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth). Less than two minutes later, Strye took a pass from Crankshaw off a long throw in by freshman forward Lisa Rovatsos (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) a buried a shot into the goal for her first of the year. Freshman midfielder Remi Piccirillo (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 88th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, NJ/East Islip) tallied her second consecutive shutout with three saves, while Samantha Pauls made seven saves for Chestnut Hill. Caldwell enjoyed an 18-3 advantage in shots for the game.
The old record for the longest winning streak was set in 2004, when the Cougars won five consecutive games en route to an 11-8-2 record.
Caldwell hosts Bloomfield College in another CACC contest on Tuesday, Sept. 25, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
