NYACK, N.Y. – The Caldwell College women's soccer team defeated Nyack College, 2-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Wednesday afternoon at the Orangetown Soccer Complex. Senior defender Sarah Royse (Northvale, NJ/Old Tappan) assisted on both goals for the Cougars, who improve to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Warriors fall to 3-3, 3-1 CACC.
Caldwell opened the scoring in the 19th minute, when junior midfielder Rebecca Stinger (Atco, NJ/Hammonton) headed home a cross from Royse for a 1-0 lead. Then in the 61st minute, Royse sent a free kick towards freshman midfielder Sarina Soriano (San Jose, CA/Archbishop Mitty), who headed the ball past Nyack goalkeeper Madeline Barbarino.
Senior goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, NY/ East Islip) earned her first shutout of the season by making nine saves, as the Warriors held an 18-11 advantage in shots. Barbarino finished with six saves for Nyack.
The Cougars host Chestnut Hill College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game on Saturday, Sept. 19. The match is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
