Caldwell Volleyball Wraps Up Gannon Tourney with Split

ERIE, Pa. – The Caldwell College volleyball team completed its first tournament of the season with a win over Davis & Elkins, 25-22, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21 and a loss to Gannon University, 25-13, 25-21, 25-12 on the second day of the Gannon University Tournament Saturday at the Hammermill Center. The Cougars return home with a 2-2 record.

Against Davis & Elkins, senior outside hitter Susan McDonough (Saline, MI/Saline) racked up 21 kills against just two errors in 56 attempts for a hitting percentage of .339. The 2011 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year also had 24 digs in the win. Freshman outside hitter Annyssa Herlihy (Springfield, NJ/Union Catholic) and junior right side Kate Blankerts (Sylvania, OH/Sylvania) each delivered seven kills. Sophomore Athena Nestoras (Los Angeles, CA/St. Monica) recorded career highs of 21 assists and 26 digs, while junior Lisa Roth (Gilbert, AZ/Williams Field) delivered 20 assists and 10 digs.

In the finale, senior right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) paced Caldwell with seven kills and McDonough finished with 18 digs. Gannon was led by Lauren Sazama with 14 kills and 10 digs.

The Cougars host Pace University on Tuesday, Sept. 4 in the first home match of the season. The first serve is set for 7:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
