Caldwell Women’s Soccer Opens Season with Loss at Adelphi

Box Score

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Caldwell College women's soccer team lost a non-conference game to Adelphi University, 6-0 in the season-opener for both teams at Motamed Field Thursday night. The Cougars posted an 8-8-2 record last year and made the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament for the fifth straight season.

The Panthers, who were 8-8-1 in 2011, took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Kaitlin Monteith in the eighth minute. The score remained 1-0 through the first half until Monteith found the net less than four minutes into the second half. Twenty minutes later, Donna Liotine scored the first of her three goals that would give Adelphi an insurmountable 5-0 advantage. Cathleen Reardon made it 6-0 with a goal in the 88th minute.

Senior goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, NY/ East Islip) made eight saves in 75 minutes of action, while sophomore Robin Franchi (Sewell, NJ/Deptford) had two saves in 15 minutes.

The Cougars face another team from the Northeast 10 Conference on Saturday, when they play at Franklin Pierce University. The game starts at 5:30 p.m. in Rindge, N.H.
