Caldwell Hands Nyack 77-31 Defeat in Women's Hoops

NYACK, N.Y. – The Caldwell College women's basketball team defeated Nyack College, 77-31 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday night at Bowman Gymnasium. The victory is the Cougars' third in a row and gives them a 15-9 record overall, including a 12-5 mark in league play. The Warriors fall to 1-20, 1-15 CACC.

Caldwell took control of the game with a 13-0 run midway through the first half for a 27-9 lead with 6:15 on the clock. Six points from sophomore forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) and four from junior center Gillian Felix (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) helped the Cougars cruise the rest of the half and take a 45-19 bulge at the break. Anderson scored 12 points in the half for Caldwell, which shot 59.4 percent from the floor compared to 29.2 percent for Nyack in the first half.

The second half was more of the same, as the Cougars scored the first 11 points of the half to spark a 23-5 run that put Caldwell on top, 68-24 with 11:35 to play. The Cougars ended up shooting a sparkling 58.2 percent from the field for the game while limiting the Warriors to 23.1 percent. Caldwell also held a 45-24 edge on the boards and forced 29 Nyack turnovers.

Felix hit 7-of-12 from the field and finished with a game-high 17 points to go with nine rebounds for the Cougars. Anderson registered her 13th double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 boards, while junior guard Torey Jones (Providence, RI/LaSalle Acad.) dished out a career-best 10 assists to go with 14 points and four steals. Hope-Ann Johnson had eight points to lead Nyack.

Caldwell hosts Dominican College in a key CACC battle on Thursday, Feb. 16. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in the George R. Newman Center.
