Caldwell Earns CACC Victory Over Goldey-Beacom, 67-56

CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College women's basketball team defeated Goldey-Beacom College, 67-56 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match-up Saturday afternoon in the George R. Newman Center. With the win, the Cougars improve to 14-9 overall and 11-5 in conference play, while the Lightning drops to 16-7, 11-5 CACC.

Caldwell got off to a good start, leading by as many as 14 before taking a 34-24 advantage at halftime. Sophomore forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) scored nine points in the half for Caldwell, which held Goldey-Beacom to 32.4 percent shooting while making 41.9 percent from the field.

Eight points from junior guard Torey Jones (Providence, RI/LaSalle Acad.), including a pair of threes, helped the Cougars reel off a 16-7 run to start the second half with a 50-31 lead. The Lightning answered by scoring the next 11 points to cut the deficit to 50-42 with 7:20 to play. But Caldwell held on by hitting 12-of-16 from the line down the stretch. The Cougars went to the charity stripe 27 times for the game compared to nine for Goldey-Beacom.

Jones finished with a game-high 14 points to go with five rebounds and three steals. Senior guard Willeen Capehart (Providence, RI/LaSalle Acad.) matched her career high with 12 points, while Anderson had 11 points and eight boards. Devonne Richardson led the Lightning with 16 points, 12 rebounds and three steals.

The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 14 with a CACC contest at Nyack College. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. in Nyack, N.Y
