CALDWELL, N.J. - The Caldwell College men's basketball team lost to Goldey-Beacom College, 84-74 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest Saturday afternoon in the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars fall to 12-11 overall and 7-9 in league play with the loss, while the Lightning are now 14-9, 11-3 CACC.

Goldey-Beacom got off to a fast start, scoring the first nine points of the game. Caldwell battled back to eventually tie the game at 17-17 on a three-pointer by freshman guard Kevin Walker (Bayonne, NJ/St. Peter's Prep) at the 9:06 mark. The Lightning regained the lead and took a 33-29 advantage into the break. Senior center Peter Diffley (Bellerose, NY/Episcopal) tallied 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field in the first half.

A pair of baskets by junior forward Arthur Morrison (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) and another three from Walker helped the Cougars cut the deficit to 39-38 early in the second half. But the Lightning used an 11-2 spree to build the lead up to 10, 50-40 with 15 minutes left. Caldwell was able to come within four points, 62-58 following a Morrison layup with 7:12 on the clock. Again Goldey-Beacom responded with a 9-3 run that put the game out of reach.

The Lightning shot 66.7 percent from the floor in the second half and committed just seven turnovers for the game compared to 11 for Caldwell.

Morrison tallied a career-high 24 points to go with eight rebounds to lead the Cougars. Freshman forward Michael Balkovic (Neptune, NJ/St. John Vianney) recorded 15 points and eight boards, while Walker notched nine points, five rebounds and five assists in the loss. The Lightning was led by guard Marcus Porter with 20 points.
