Post Downs Cougars in Women's Hoops

Box Score WATERBURY, Conn. – The Caldwell College women's basketball team fell to Post University on the road, 70-62 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday night in the Drubner Center. The loss drops the Cougars to 2-9 overall and 1-2 in the conference, while the Eagles (4-3) remain unbeaten in the CACC at 4-0.

Caldwell fell behind 16-4 early before reeling off a 23-3 run over the next eight minutes to take a 27-19 lead with six minutes left in the first half. Sophomore forward Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) had seven points and freshman guard Nicole Angelo (Mount Laurel, NJ/Camden Catholic) hit two three-pointers in the run. The Cougars held the Eagles to 29.7 percent shooting while making 42.4 percent from the floor en route to a 35-28 halftime lead.

The Caldwell lead was 43-35 with 15:37 remaining when Post took control of the game with a 21-5 spree that put the hosts on top, 56-48 six minutes left. The Cougars came within six points four times but would get no closer, as the Eagles won their fourth straight league game. Post turned things around by shooting 52.1 percent in the second half compared to 29.0 percent for Caldwell, which missed all nine of their three-point attempts after halftime.

Senior guard Torey Jones (Providence, RI/LaSalle Acad.) scored 17 of her team-high 21 points in the second half and added nine rebounds for the game. Caswell, senior center Gillian Felix (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) and junior forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) each scored nine points, while Anderson grabbed 10 boards. Monique Chance led Post with 22 points and 14 rebounds.

Caldwell plays another CACC road game on Saturday, Dec. 8, as the Cougars face Goldey-Beacom College at 2:00 p.m. in Wilmington, Del.
