Jones Breaks Three-Point Record in Caldwell’s 78-47 Win Over Felician

Box Score CALDWELL, N.J. - Senior guard Torey Jones (Providence, RI/LaSalle Acad.) became Caldwell College's all-time leader in three-pointers, as the Cougars women's basketball team defeated Felician College, 78-47 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon in the George R. Newman Center. With the win, the Cougars improve to 4-10 overall and 2-3 in league play, while the Golden Falcons drop to 4-7, 1-3 CACC.

Jones, who entered the game with 200 career three-pointers, eclipsed Kirsty Leedham's record of 202 with a trey at the 9:11 mark of the second half. She ended up with four threes on the day, giving her 204 for her career.

Caldwell built a 28-21 lead with five minutes to play in the first half before Felician used an 11-3 run to take a 32-31 lead with 13 second left. Junior guard Marielle Duryea (Middle Village, NY/Archbishop Molloy) made 1-of-2 from the line at the end of the half to tie the score at 32-32 at the break. The Cougars shot 50.0 percent from the field in the half but committed 17 turnovers.

Three-pointers by Jones and freshman guard Fahime Farzanessa (Cologne, Germany/Humboldt) helped Caldwell to pull ahead, 53-39 with 11:23 remaining. After Trina Plummer scored for Felician to make the score 53-41, the Cougars put the game out of reach with an 18-0 spree that included two threes and eight points from Jones and four points from Duryea. Caldwell forced three turnovers and six missed shots in the run to take a 71-41 lead with 5:36 on the clock.

The Cougars ended up shooting 49.2 percent from the field for the game while committing just four turnovers in the second half. The hosts also dominated the glass, grabbing 47 rebounds compared to 33 for Felician.

Jones ended up with a game-high 18 points while making 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. She also contributed seven rebounds, five assists and two steals. Duryea came off the bench to score a career-best 12 points to go with four assists. Sophomore forward Emily Caswell (Wakefield, RI/Prout School) tallied 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds, junior forward Jeanette Anderson (Lynn, MA/Lynn English) had 10 points and eight boards, and sophomore guard Jessica Coscia (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) dished out seven assists. Coscia has recorded seven assists in each of Caldwell's four wins this season. Plummer had 10 points to pace Felician.

The Cougars continue CACC play with a home game against Bloomfield College on Wednesday, Dec. 19, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Newman Center.
