Philadelphia Holds Off Cougars in CACC Women's Soccer Semifinals

Box Score WATERBURY, Conn. – The Caldwell College women's soccer team was eliminated from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament with a 2-1 loss to Philadelphia University in the semifinals Friday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. The third-seeded Cougars finish the season with a program-best 14-5 record, while the second-seeded Rams (13-7) advance to Sunday's final against Wilmington University.

Philadelphia jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal by Carla Chmielewski in the 10th minute. Five minutes after halftime, Janine Cascio made it 2-0 Rams with an unassisted goal. The Cougars got on the scoreboard in the 71st minute, when sophomore forward Megan Ferrara (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) collected a loose ball near the top of the penalty area and blasted a shot past Rams' goalkeeper Kelli Kowalewski to make it a one-goal game. Caldwell pressed for the equalizer but was unable to find the net before time expired.

Senior goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, NY/ East Islip) made 10 saves in her final game for Caldwell. Kowalewski finished with three saves for Philadelphia, which built a 19-8 advantage in shots.

The loss also marked the final game for five seniors: Cabales, defenders Jackie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) and Sarah Royse (Northvale, NJ/Old Tappan), and midfielders Ashley Parent (Minotola, NJ/Buena) and Molly Tague (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/St. Rose). The group helped the Cougars win 38 games over the past four years, the most wins in any four-year period in the history of the program.

This year Caldwell, coached by Nate Guagliardi, set school records for wins (14), CACC victories (10) and goals (53) in a season.
