Caldwell Men’s Hoops Falls to Assumption at Dominican Tourney

Box Score ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Caldwell College men's basketball team opened the Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament at Dominican College with a 75-59 loss to Assumption College Saturday night at the Hennessy Center. The Cougars are now 1-3 overall, while the Greyhounds improve to 2-0.

After Assumption built a 25-15 lead in the first half, Caldwell scored the next six points, including three from senior forward Arthur Morrison (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan), to make the score 25-21 with five minutes to play in the half. The Greyhounds used three three-pointers to close out the half with a 15-6 run and take a 40-27 advantage at the break.

In the second half, four points from sophomore forward Michael Balkovic (Neptune, NJ/St. John Vianney) and three-pointers by Morrison and freshman guard Dawan Lighty (Paterson, NJ/Kennedy) sparked a 14-5 spree and reduced the Assumption lead to five, 48-43 with 15 minutes remaining. But the Greyhounds built their lead back up to 14 midway through the half en route to their second win of the season. Assumption went 10-of-15 (66.7 percent) from the field in the second half, and made nine threes compared to three for Caldwell for the game.

Balkovic registered 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the Cougars in both categories. Morrison finished with 15 points and four assists, while sophomore guard Wyatt Polk (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield) tallied eight points and six boards. Ronson Quick scored 20 points to pace the greyhounds.

Caldwell wraps up play at the Daniel Sullivan Tournament with a game against the University of Bridgeport on Sunday, Nov. 18, beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the Hennessy Center.
