Caldwell Falls to Merrimack in Men's Basketball

Box Score WALTHAM, Mass. – The Caldwell College men's basketball team dropped its second game at the Bentley Tip-Off Conference Challenge, losing to Merrimack, 75-62 Saturday night in the Dana Center. The Cougars, who lost to the host Falcons on Friday, are now 0-2, while the Warriors improve to 2-0.

With the score tied at 14-14 midway through the first half, Merrimack grabbed control of the game with a 20-2 run that put the Warriors on top, 34-16 with six minutes on the clock. A pair of threes from sophomore guard Wyatt Polk (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield) allowed Caldwell to cut the deficit to 41-28 at the half. Merrimack shot 55.9 percent from the field compared to 39.1 percent for the Cougars, who were led by senior forward Arthur Morrison (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) with eight points in the half.

The lead remained 13 points until an 11-2 run gave the Warriors their largest lead of the second half, 56-34 with 15 minutes remaining. Caldwell didn't get closer than 17 points until the final two minutes of the game, losing its second game to a Northeast-10 Conference team in the new season. Merrimack scored 50 of its 75 points in the paint, and had 19 points off of turnovers compared to eight for the Cougars.

Morrison finished with a team-best 16 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks, while Polk had 15 points and three steals. Sophomore forward Michael Balkovic (Neptune, NJ/St. John Vianney) added 13 points. Mike Clifford had 19 points and Kevin Regan scored 17 points for the Warriors.

The Cougars take on Mercy College in a non-conference game on Wednesday, Nov. 14, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
