PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Caldwell College women's soccer team saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end with a 3-1 loss to Philadelphia University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Sunday afternoon at Ravenhill Field. The Cougars, who hadn't lost since Sept. 1, are now 8-3 overall and 5-1 in the conference. The Rams improve to 8-3, 8-1 CACC.
After a scoreless first half, Kristen Ferguson put Philadelphia on top with a goal in the 50th minute. Caldwell tied the game in the 55th minute, when sophomore midfielder Ashlee Paknis (Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Reg.) knocked in a rebound off a shot from sophomore forward Megan Ferrara (Clifton, NJ/Clifton). Less than 10 minutes later, Melissa Copeland put the Rams ahead for good with a goal in the 64th minute. Carla Chmielewski tallied an insurance goal in the 68th minute for a 3-1 lead.
Senior goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, NY/ East Islip) made four saves in goal for Caldwell, while Kelli Kowalewski had for saves for Philadelphia. The Rams held a 22-9 advantage in shots.
The eight-game winning streak is the longest in the 15-year history of the women's soccer program at Caldwell, which was ranked ninth in the latest NSCAA East Region poll.
The Cougars host Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game on Tuesday, Oct. 9. The match is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
