Caldwell Defeats Holy Family in CACC Quarterfinals, 4-0

Box Score CALDWELL, N.J. – Junior midfielder Julie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) scored twice to lead the Caldwell College women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Holy Family University in the quarterfinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Sunday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The third-seeded Cougars (14-4) advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2008, while the defending CACC champion Tigers end their season at 8-11.

Crankshaw put Caldwell on the scoreboard in the 20th minute with a little help from her sister, senior defender Jackie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.), who blasted a free kick off the crossbar from 30 yards out. Julie Crankshaw knocked in the rebound for a 1-0 lead. Eight minutes into the second half, sophomore forward Megan Ferrara (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) headed home a free kick from sophomore midfielder Ashlee Paknis (Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Reg.) to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.

Less than three minutes later, Ferrara was taken down in the Tigers' penalty area, resulting in a penalty kick. Julie Crankshaw converted the kick, beating Holy Family goalkeeper Rachel Dunkle to her left for her team-leading 12th goal of the season. Caldwell made it 4-0 in the 80th minute, when freshman forward Lisa Rovatsos (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) received a pass from freshman midfielder Remi Piccirillo (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) and scored from the right side. The Cougars have scored a school-record 52 goals this season.

Senior goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) made eight saves for her fourth shutout of the season and the 12th of her career. Dunkle recorded three saves for Holy Family, which eliminated Caldwell in the quarterfinals of both the 2010 and 2011 CACC Tournaments.

The Cougars will face second-seeded Philadelphia University in the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 1. Post University is hosting the semifinal and final rounds of the men's and women's soccer tournaments. Game time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury, Conn.
