BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Caldwell College women's soccer team won its school-record 12th game of the season with a 3-1 victory over Concordia College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Tuesday afternoon at Holtdorf Soccer Field. The Cougars, who scored three unanswered goals in the second half for the comeback win, improve to 12-4 overall and 9-2 in the conference, while the Clippers end their season at 0-15, 0-12 CACC.
Concordia made its lone shot of the game count, as Susan Valencia broke a scoreless tie in the 36th minute with a goal off a pass from Iyesha Ollivierre. But Caldwell responded quickly in the second half. Sophomore forward Natalie Migoya (Lincoln Park, NJ/Morris Catholic) placed a shot into the lower left corner of the goal 47 seconds after halftime to tie the game at 1-1. The score remained tied until the 73rd minute, when junior midfielder Carissa Strye (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) blasted a free kick from 20 yards out off the far post and into the net for the go-ahead goal. Sophomore forward Megan Ferrara (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) tallied an insurance goal in the 88th minute, with freshman Sarina Soriano (San Jose, CA/Archbishop Mitty) and Migoya getting the assists.
The Cougars ended up with a 23-1 advantage in shots, with six shots finding the mark. Johana Vargas made three saves for Concordia.
This is the first time the Cougars have won 12 games in a season, surpassing the 2004 team that finished 11-8-2. Today's win also was the ninth CACC victory of the season, breaking the previous record of eight conference wins set in 2004 and matched in 2010.
Caldwell concludes the regular season with a CACC match at Dominican College on Thursday, Oct. 25. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Orangeburg, N.Y.
