Caldwell Women's Soccer Falls to Wilmington, 2-1

Box Score

CALDWELL, N.J. – The Caldwell College women's soccer team suffered its first home loss of the season, falling to Wilmington University, 2-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Wednesday afternoon at Caldwell Field. The Cougars are now 11-4 overall and 8-2 in league play, while the Wildcats improve to 9-6-2, 9-1-1 CACC.

Just 14 seconds after the opening kickoff, sophomore forward Natalie Migoya (Lincoln Park, NJ/Morris Catholic) dribbled down the right side, cut into the middle and blasted a shot into the lower left corner of the goal for an early 1-0 lead. It was Migoya's fourth goal of the season. The lead held until the 21st minute, when Chelsea Grace received a through-ball from Jenna Quaranta and scored for Wilmington to tie the game at 1-1. Early in the second half, Ashley Kroll got on the end of a crossing pass from Victoria Vasapolli and beat senior goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) to put the Wildcats on top, 2-1.

Migoya had a good scoring chance in the 70th minute that was thwarted by Wildcats goalkeeper Amanda Walters. Junior midfielder Rebecca Stinger (Atco, NJ/Hammonton) just missed the net at the left post in the 82nd minute. Caldwell earned a pair of corner kicks in the final minute of regulation but was unable to prevent its first loss at home in seven games this season.

Cabales finished with six saves for the Cougars, while Walters also tallied six saves.

The game also marked the final regular-season home game for Caldwell's five seniors: Cabales, defenders Jackie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) and Sarah Royse (Northvale, NJ/Old Tappan), and midfielders Ashley Parent (Minotola, NJ/Buena) and Molly Tague (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/St. Rose).

The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 23, when they play a CACC game at Concordia College. The game starts at 3:00 p.m. in Bronxville, N.Y.
