Soriano Helps Cougars Beat Goldey-Beacom in Women's Soccer

WILMINGTON, Del. – Freshman midfielder Sarina Soriano (San Jose, CA/Archbishop Mitty) scored twice as the Caldwell College women's soccer team beat Goldey-Beacom College, 5-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Saturday afternoon at Churchman-Sawin Field. The win is the 10th of the season for the Cougars (10-3), who improve to 7-1 in conference play. The Lightning is now 3-11, 1-8 CACC.

Sophomore midfielder Ashlee Paknis (Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Reg.) put Caldwell on the scoreboard in the eighth minute off an assist from junior defender Rebecca Nadeau (Little Egg Harbor, NJ/Pinelands Reg.). Less than six minutes later, Soriano found the net with the help of sophomore defender Lauren Iuliucci (Franklinville, NJ/Deptford) for a 2-0 lead. In the second half, junior midfielder Julie Crankshaw (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Twp.) tallied her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 51st minute, with sophomore forward Megan Ferrara (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) getting the assist.

Junior midfielder Rebecca Stinger (Atco, NJ/Hammonton) set up Soriano's second goal of the game less than three minutes later for a 4-0 advantage. Freshman forward Lisa Rovatsos (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) closed out the scoring with a goal off an assist from sophomore midfielder Emily Boehler (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Reg.) in the 67th minute.

Senior goalkeeper Kristina Cabales (Islip Terrace, NY/ East Islip) made one save in goal for Caldwell, while Alyssa Vetrano had six saves for Goldey-Beacom. The Cougars built a 25-7 advantage in shots for the game. This is the third time Caldwell has won at least 10 games in a season in the 15-year history of the program, joining the 2004 and 2010 squads. The Cougars won a school-record 11 games in 2004.

Caldwell hosts CACC foe Felician College on Wednesday, Oct. 17, beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Caldwell Field.
