EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The Caldwell College volleyball team opened the new season with a sweep of East Stroudsburg University at the East Stroudsburg Tournament at Koehler Fieldhouse Friday night. The Cougars, who are the defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champions, won by scores of 25-15, 25-15, 26-24.
Junior outside hitter Susan McDonough (Saline, MI/Saline) led all players with 12 kills, while junior right side Amber Mosher (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) and freshman outside hitter Athena Nestoras (Los Angeles, CA/St. Monica) each delivered seven kills. Senior setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH/Findlay) dished out 29 assists, and junior libero Maddy Amon (Louisville, KY/Bishop Moore) paced the defense with 17 kills. The performance allowed Amon to become the first Cougar volleyball player to record 1,000 digs in her career. She is Caldwell's all-time leader in digs with 1,001.
Kaitlin Behrens led the Warriors with six kills. Haley Mork added 18 digs.
Caldwell continues play at the East Stroudsburg Tournament with matches against Chestnut Hill College and Lincoln University on Saturday, Sept. 4, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Koehler Fieldhouse.
